Important information

What happens when I have booked my test?

You will either receive a call within 5 working days from one of our Diamond team to discuss your test and any training you require prior to the test or a regional examiner will contact you directly at local level to discuss your requirements and make arrangements for a mutually convenient date and time.

What are the test requirements for the Diamond advanced test?

The Diamond advanced test lasts for 60 minutes on a variety of roads, including where possible motorways, rural roads and built up areas. You will be asked to complete 2 reversing/slow moving exercises and a possible emergency stop. There will be a 10-15 minute element of independent driving/riding. In order to pass the advanced test you must not accumulate more than 6 driver/rider faults and no serious or dangerous faults. Your certificate will be issued on the day you pass your test and will be valid for a 3 year period.

What are the test requirements for the Diamond elite test?

The Diamond elite test lasts for 90 minutes on a variety of roads, including motorways, rural roads and built up areas. You will be asked to complete 2 reversing/slow moving exercises and a possible emergency stop. There will be a 15-20 minute commentary drive/ride in total, which may be taken in one or two parts depending on the route. In order to pass the elite test you must not accumulate more than 2 driver/rider faults and no serious or dangerous faults. The 2 faults must not be given in the same box and if you accumulate no more than 6 driving faults you will be issued with an advanced test certification. Your certificate will be issued on the day you pass your test and will be valid for a 3 year period.

Is the Diamond advanced car test suitable for a PDI part 2 mock test equivalent?

Although the Diamond advanced test does not completely mirror the current part 2 qualifying test, it does allow you to reach the same standard required in the form of a 'mock test' and it will help you to establish if you have reached a good standard to be able to take the DVSA part 2 qualifying test. Diamond tests have the same marking system as the DVSA, which will therefore identify any areas of weakness you may need to address.

Is the Diamond elite test part of the Diamond examiner course?

If you have signed up to one of our course dates to become a Diamond examiner you will need to pass the Diamond elite test first. Normally this is included in the price of the course, however, you will receive the correct instructions and information at the point of booking and paying for a course. An examiner at regional level will contact you within 5-10 working days after the booking has been made to arrange a suitable date and time for your test. You can also discuss your training needs with the examiner, should you need any, at this point. Your examiner cannot train and test you, however, plans will be made to ensure you are well prepared for the test.

What type of car/motorcycle can I bring to a test?

Your vehicle/machine must be roadworthy, legal and insured for the purposes of the test. You can take your test in a manual or automatic vehicle/machine, which can be electric or hybrid if you prefer.

What happens on test day?

Your examiner will check your eyesight, the vehicle i.e. lights, tyres etc and your original driving licence. You will need to bring your NI number or a check code for the examiner to verify your licence online atwww.gov.uk. If any of the above cannot be verified your test will be cancelled and you will need to book and pay for a new test.

What happens if I do not pass my test?
